Man died in Quincy fire

QUINCY — A Quincy man died in a fire at Quincy Manor Wednesday afternoon.

The man’s identity was not released.

“Upon our arrival, heavy fire and smoke was coming from the lower and upper apartments,” Grant County Fire District 3 reported. “During the primary search, one adult male was found deceased in the lower apartment.”

The fire district reported heavy fire damage to one upper and lower apartment and smoke and water damage to two adjoining apartments.

“One female was occupying the upper apartment and was able to leave safely but lost everything in the fire,” the district reported. “She is staying with local family. No occupants (were) in the adjoining apartments.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire district, Grant County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Region 6 Fire Investigation Task Force.

Nearly 45 firefighters and support personnel responded to the fire with five engines and ladder trucks. They remained at the scene until about 7:30 p.m.
