Rodolfo M. Mejia

| December 22, 2009 8:00 PM

Rodolfo M. Mejia, better known as “Rudy,” passed away Friday, December 18, 2009. He was 80 years old.

He is survived by his three daughters, America, Norma, and Thelma; three sons, Jose Manuel, Rudy Jr., and Anthony; several grandchildren, and his companion Katherine “Kitty” Minerd who he loved and shared his sunset years with. He spent his last days at Columbia Crest Care and Rehabilitation Center where he was lovingly cared for.

Rudy was truly a fixture of the community in Moses Lake for over 40 years. He worked many places in the area over the years including American Potato, Hanford, and D&L Foundry as a welder and metal fabricator. He was well liked and respected for his skill, integrity, and sense of humor. He was a good friend and neighbor and took a lot of pride in his yard and gardening. He shared all he had with whoever would accept it and looked out for all the children and pets as if they were family.

Despite a lot of hardships, especially the loss of his wife Manuela at an early age; after a troubled time, he found love and happiness in his life again. His challenges turned him into one of the rare people who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and he appreciated everything he had. Rudy will be missed by those whose lives he touched, but will live on with us as an inspiration to bravely face whatever life brings us.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped him when he needed it most; Kitty, Tom and Mary Chaplain, the Carpenters, and all the others who cared about him. We know that Rudy would want to say it once again to all of you… “Thank you, thank you for everything.”

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2009, with Father Tomas Vidal as celebrant followed by services at Pioneer Memorial Gardens where his remains will join those of his beloved wife Manuela. In honor of Rudy’s spirit, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to Grant County Animal Outreach, or the Senior Citizens Center in Moses Lake.

Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake. Please sign the guest book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.
