Ephrata woman struck on SR 17

SOAP LAKE — A woman on her hands and knees, in the roadway of state Route 17, was struck by a car and critically injured Sunday.

The vehicle injuring Kimberly A. Krich, 37, Ephrata, left the scene without stopping, according to the Washington State Patrol Trooper Rich Magnussen.

“It’s felony hit-and-run,” he said. “The driver fled the scene without stopping.”

Investigators determined Krich was allegedly on her hands and knees in the roadway intoxicated, roughly nine miles north of Soap Lake, when she was struck. Her vehicle was parked on private property adjacent to the highway.

“We don’t know why she was out there … we are trying to piece that together,” said Magnussen. “We haven’t been able to talk to her. She was in critical condition when she left the scene.”

Krich was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane for treatment of a shattered pelvis, broken left arm and internal injuries, according to the state patrol.

The investigation closed SR 17 for roughly two hours, according to Magnussen.

The state patrol is seeking information on the vehicle and driver responsible for Krich’s injuries. They are asking anyone with information about the accident to call 509-663-98721.
