MOSES LAKE — Soccer is a year-round sport due to its status as the world’s game.

Different areas of the planet have their own seasons and for the state of Washington that applies to Under-14 soccer.

Recently, the CB United Cassidy Boys 95 U-14 squad won the President’s State Cup in Tukwilla by a 2-0 score this past Saturday.

In all, the squad won all five games, including four preliminary round games played on Dec. 5-6 in Burlington.

During their run to the crown, the Cassidy Boys did not give up a goal.

The squad is coached by Sean Cassidy and assisted by Colin Connacher, who both led the team to the District 6 Tournament title earlier this year.

Over the course of these boys’ run to excellence, they did not give up any goals over the run of play during the 2009 tournament schedule.

This success almost didn’t come to fruition as the team had no coach and barely any players only a few weeks before the season started,

Cassidy, an uncle of one of the players, ended up being approached and subsequently took the mantle.

“Where can I start since we had an absolutely fantastic season.” Cassidy said. “We got a team put together and put some calls out on some players that were on the fence. We ended up with 17 players when we started in August.”

The team ended up 18-1-2 for the season, scoring 100 goals while giving up only 10.

Members of the squad are, Tyler Courtright, Dalton Johnson, Chad Palmer, Hunter Stucky, Justin Cassidy, Tristiane Randall, Adrian Vazquez, Sean Cotton, Tyson Martin, Dylan Benthem, Larry Banegas, Bryce Unruh, Mark Crawford, Andrew Camren, and Kaelan Connacher.

“Half of our team is from Ephrata half from the Moses Lake area with skills all across the spectrum,” Cassidy said. “We had a fun season and it was a total team season. It was all 17 guys and we had a great time. It was a great experience to be a part of”
