EPHRATA — The Ephrata-based 1161st Transportation Company recognized Grant County PUD employees this week for giving Christmas gifts to deployed soldiers’ children.

The gifts were presented to the children during a Christmas party at the Ephrata Armory on Dec. 5, said Dorothy Harris, a PUD spokesperson.

Cpt. Geraldine Gutzwiler and Spec. Bobbi Hendershott attended Monday’s commission meeting to present the certificates.

“The expressions of the children were priceless, as they received the gifts given to them,” Gutzwiler said.

“The presents definitely came at a good time,” she commented. “It’s wonderful we have such generous members of the community who give to us.”

A certificate was also give to the IBEW, Local 77, Unit 120, for outstanding service to the 1161st.

Hendershott is the daughter of Grant County PUD Auditor Kim Justice.

Gutzwiler is the married to Ryan Gutzwiler, an assistant construction and maintenance supervisor at the PUD. He has completed two tours of duty in Iraq.

The 1161st is serving in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
