Moses Lake man accidentally shot

| December 11, 2009 8:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — A 43-year-old Moses Lake man accidentally shot himself in the face while hunting with friends near Road U, about 10 miles east of Moses Lake.

Emergency aid was dispatched to the incident at about 12:40 p.m. on Dec. 4, Grant County Undersheriff John Turley stated Thursday. He noted they delayed releasing information until they could finish investigating.

Authorities gathered information from the man’s fellow hunters to determine what happened and discovered two possibilities of how he shot himself.

The hunters advised he accidentally shot himself while either wringing the neck of a freshly captured pheasant or while congratulating his hunting dog, who could have tripped the gun’s trigger causing it to fire.

The blast injured the man through his hunting vest, along his left side and to his face and head, Turley stated.

On Saturday the hunter was in stable condition in the critical care unit at a medical center in Spokane, he noted.
