Blessings in a bag

| December 4, 2009 8:00 PM

WARDEN — Warden families in need of a blessing for the holidays can look to the Warden Ministerial Alliance.

Alliance members are organizing their third Bags of Blessing event in response to hunger in the community of Warden.

The bags sell for $25 each and include everything a family needs to make a Christmas dinner. Some items are canned fruit and vegetables, noodles and a certificate for a turkey and some rolls.

Potatoes, rice, beans and other food items are also made available to families purchasing the bags.

Families can pick up bags from the Town and Country Mark-it, starting Friday. The bags are distributed from the Warden Food Pantry on Dec.15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Warden Food Pantry is located at the corner of Fifth and Maple.

The Ministerial Alliance compiles names of people in need from various sources in the community.

There is also a sign up sheet in the Food Pantry.

Alliance members expect to give out some 70 bags this year. The Bags of Blessing event is made possible by the generosity of the individuals and businesses in Warden, said Brad Roth, pastor of the Warden Mennonite Church.
