Doris Virginia Rauter

On November 28, 2009, Doris Virginia Rauter, a longtime Warden resident, passed away peacefully in Spokane, WA with her family by her side.

She was born to German/Russian immigrant parents Jacob and Elizabeth Wilhelm on October 28, 1928 in Ritzville, WA.

She married the love of her life, Leonard (Zip) Rauter on February 16, 1947 in Ritzville, and together they raised their three daughters and farmed their dryland wheat farm in Warden, WA until retirement in 1982. After her husband’s death in 1985 she relocated to Spokane where she continued to reside. Mom lived an active life and kept her sense of humor until her passing. She is survived by her daughters, Lonna K. Malone-Purtle of Richland, Jeanne A. Salisbury (Paul) of Valleyford, and Debra S. Rauter-Tuerke (Steve) of Spokane, as well as granddaughter Kay Guidry (Nick) of Cheyenne, WY and grandson Gregory Salisbury of New York, NY.. She also leaves behind two brothers, Robert Wilhelm of Las Vegas, NV, Richard Wilhelm of Spokane, four sisters, Lydia Rush of Albany, OR, Dena Costello of Clovis, CA, Freida Uhrich of Eugene, OR and Esther Oestreich of Ritzville, WA, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilhelm of Dayton, NV and Doris Scott of Sequim, WA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, brother Henry Wilhelm, two brothers in Europe, and three nephews.

She very much enjoyed dancing, visiting the Oregon coast and the Washington Cascades, successful gambling outings, traveling with her family, but most of all spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She remained a long-standing member of the Warden Community Church.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 3rd, at 2:00 pm. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden, WA., followed by a gathering for family and friends.
