MOSES LAKE — At only 6 years old, Moses Lake’s Alexys Nycole Sanchez is well on her way to fame after starring in a movie with Adam Sandler and Salma Hayek.

Alexys is all smiles when talking about her experience.

She said it was her first time acting professionally and Wednesday marked the first time she was interviewed by the media.

In the movie scheduled for release in June 2010, she stars as the daughter of Sandler and Hayek. The plot of the comedy involves several friends reuniting after a 30 year stint away from each other.

“It was, like, really fun,” Alexys said. “I got to meet a lot of people.”

Her career only began to blossom recently.

Her mother, 24 year old Kyleigh Sanchez, said when Alexys was about 4 years old, she said she wanted to be in commercials.

“I like movies and I really wanted to be in them because they’re really fun,” Alexys said.

Kyleigh decided to send her to acting and modeling classes in Seattle. She spent about four months learning and attended a talent convention in Los Angeles shortly after. At the convention she performed various skits modeled after commercials.

Afterward, she received eight callbacks and signed up with Rising Talent Management and has a booking agent.

When they heard about the casting call for the movie role, her parents decided to have her try out for it.

Hundreds, if not thousands of girls, auditioned for the role in person, she said. The Sanchez family sent in a video audition tape of their daughter because she was unable to make the in-person auditions.

She was called back for a reading of the script with actors in Los Angeles.

While in their hotel room, anticipating the decision of whether or not she would be in the movie, they received a phone call from the movie producers. They wanted Alexys in the movie.

“I was so happy,” Alexys said. “No commercials or nothing. I just got right into (movies).”

She said she was jumping up and down on the hotel bed screaming because she was so excited.

Alexys was then sent to Boston to begin filming in May. The production concluded in August.

Because Alexys does not know how to read yet, she had to memorize her lines, her mother explained. During the filming, the director and staff would tell her several lines at once and she would memorize them shortly after and then repeat them while the cameras were rolling.

Her favorite parts of being in the movie were having her hair and make up done each day, going on a hay ride and visiting water parks.

She said one of her best memories is going to the fairy parties hosted by Hayek. Alexys said Hayek would host parties for her daughter and the other children in the movie.

“We dress up as fairies and be like fairies,” she said. “It was really fun. I like fairies.”

She said it was fun working with celebrities. She enjoyed having Sandler and Hayek play her parents.

“They’re really nice and so was David Spade,” she said. “They’re so cool.”

Alexys said she wants to use the money she is earning from the movie to purchase a cellphone just like her mother’s and a kitten.

Alexys and her family are leaving Moses Lake for one month to be in Los Angeles for pilot season so she can try out for other acting roles. This year she is entering first grade but will be home schooled so she can attend auditions and events associated with her movie, such as the premier. Previously she attended North Elementary for kindergarten.

She said she hopes to get a role on “Hannah Montana” because she wants to meet actress Miley Cyrus or to get a role on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” because she likes magic.
