MOSES LAKE — Although Moses Lake wrapped up a disappointing 2009 West Coast League (WCL) season Aug. 9, the Pirates received some good news this week when D.C. Legg was selected to the All-League team.

Legg played in 35 games this season for the Pirates, starting 33 of them, while helping the Pirates to a 10-38 record and was an honorable All-WCL selection for the Pirates — the team’s lone selection.

The 2009 campaign marked the second consecutive year Legg suited up for the Pirates. Legg, a member of the University of Utah baseball team, was a member of the 2008 Moses Lake Pirates team.

With Legg returning to Moses Lake this season to play for the Pirates, Legg had the opportunity to stay with the same host family he stayed with during the 2008 season.

After Moses Lake wrapped up the 2009 season, Legg said his host family played a significant roll in his return to the Pirates.

“I love them,” he said after the Pirates’ final game of the season. “They really mean a lot to me. They are a big reason why I came back.”

Legg was second on the team in batting with a .266 average —  only catcher Brent Trask hit better (.271). Legg also exploded at the plate during the last half of the season.

Moses Lake head coach Steve Keller said Legg deserved the award.

“It’s good to see him get rewarded for his hard work this summer,” he said. “I am pretty proud of him to get that recognition.”

Legg showcased his talent on the diamond this season and Keller believes Legg has a future ahead of him in baseball.”

“He has the ability of a professional prospect,” he said. “I think a lot of the coaches in the league saw that.”
