Classic supports Newspapers in Education
MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin Herald, with the help from Horizon Credit Union and Horizon Northwest Home Mortgage, will host the second annual Newspapers in Education Golf Classic tournament next month at the Coeur d’Alene Resort in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
The Newspapers in Education program is designed to benefit Columbia Basin youth in classrooms throughout Grant and Adams counties, said Event Chairman and Columbia Basin Herald Circulation Director Tom Hinde.
“This program plays a role in better educating our young people and preparing them to become more informed citizens,” he said. “Newspapers are really a great resource tool.”
The first annual Columbia Basin Herald Newspapers in Education Golf Classic raised more than $6,900 last year and Hinde said his goal is to raise more than $10,000 at this year’s tournament to support the Columbia Basin’s youth.
“Our Newspapers in Education program benefits the youth in Grant and Adams counties,” he said. “The newspapers are used to help educate students.”
The tournament is scheduled to take place Sunday, Sept. 20. at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, one of the premier golf destinations in North America.
The course sits along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and is a perennial award winner and recently received Golf World Magazine’s prestigious 2009 Readers’ Choice Award.
The annual golf classic is hosted by one of the premier golf courses in the United States and is a benefit of playing in the tournament next month, Hinde said
“Not only will people be able to play on a beautfiul golf course, the tournament is a credit to the education of youth in the Columbia Basin,” he said. “The benefits go far beyond the golf. The tournament supports Columbia Basin schools.”
Tournament participation is not limited to corporate sponsors.
Interested golfers may participate in the second annual Columbia Basin Herald Newspapers in Education Golf Classic for $155 per golfer or $620 per four-person team.
Registered golfers will receive a round of golf at the world famous Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, a water taxi to and from the resort, forecaddie service, 2009 Coeur d’Alene Resort golf bag tag, complimentary practice balls, warm-up sports massage, barbecue dinner and gift bag.
Although space is still available for next month’s tournament, space is limited and sponsors of the Columbia Basin Herald Newspapers in Education Golf Classic will receive ads in the paper, Hinde said.
Registration for the second annual Columbia Basin Herald Newspapers in Education Golf Classic will begin Sunday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. and tournament play will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The tournament will support a four-person scramble format with a barbecue dinner to follow the competition at 5 p.m.
The event will conclude with awards presentations and prize drawings beginning at 5:30 p.m., Hinde said.
“We have some outstanding wine, hats, and shirts to give away,” he said.
With the tournament less than a month away, Hinde said the second annual event would not be possible without the support from sponsors throughout the Columbia Basin.
“It’s really going to be a great, fun tournament,” he said. “The tournament would not be possible without the sponsorships received from local businesses and individuals throughout the Columbia Basin. I would like to give special thanks to the Coeur d’Alene Resort and to our event sponsors Horizon Credit Union and Horizon Northwest Home Mortgage.”
