CB United soccer team takes second

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Columbia Basin (CB) United U17 girls team finished second at the Northwest Cup Aug. 16 in Spokane, Wash.

The CB United U17 team fended off eight other teams to finish second in the 10-team tournament. The CB United team is made up of players from Wenatchee, Wash., Ephrata, Moses Lake, and Othello.

The team traveled to Spokane Aug. 14 to begin round-robin play.

After finishing round-robin play unbeaten with one victory and a pair of ties, they qualified for the elimination round of the tournament.

CB United met a team from Missoula, Mont., in the semifinals and after 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, the game went to overtime.

Following a pair of overtime periods, the game went to a shootout before CB United knocked off Missoula to advance to the championship game.

In the finals CB United squared off with a team from Kamloops, British Columbia.

For the second straight game, CB United found themselves in a 1-1 tie heading into a shootout.

CB United fell in the shootout and the team claimed second place.
