Booster club to host fund raiser
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake cross country booster club will host a unique game of bingo next month to raise funds for the upcoming fall season.
The fund raiser will focus around a game of Cow-Chip Bingo on the football field at the Moses Lake High School track Monday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.
The football field will be divided into 1,000, two-foot by two-foot squares.
After the field is divided into sections, two well-fed cows will be let loose on the grid. Wherever the cow chips fall, prizes will be awarded, said first-year Moses Lake cross country coach Loren Childers.
“I have done this in the past at previous schools,” he said. “It’s a pretty fun thing to do.”
The grand prize winner will take home $500. Second prize is a 32-inch LCD HDTV. Third prize is a new Nintendo Wii and fourth prize is a new iPod Shuffle.
Tickets for Cow-Chip Bingo are on sale for $10 each and Childers said the booster club will not sell more than 1,000 tickets for the event.
Proceeds from Cow-Chip Bingo will go to the Moses Lake cross country team to help pay for new equipment and travel expenses, Childers said.
“We are saving the money for a new meet-timing system and to help cover travel costs,” he said.
Childers is in his third year coaching cross country and is beginning his first at the helm of the Moses Lake program.
Although Childers is entering his first year as head coach, he is anxious for the upcoming season.
“It’s exciting,” he said. “I am looking forward to seeing what these kids can do. I feel like they will be surprised.”
Tickets are available through Moses Lake cross country participants, through Childers at the high school or Moses Lake cross country booster club representative Janet Daschel at 509-766-9987.
Moses Lake will host their only home meet of the season Saturday, Sept. 12 at Hylander Greens Golf Course and Childers is excited.
“Our guys team should be in the upper half of the Columbia Basin (Big Nine) league,” he said. “Our girls team is starting to grow.”
