More ballots counted in primary election

COLUMBIA BASIN — More ballots were counted in Grant County and Adams County indicating the candidates running for the general election in November.

There are roughly 50 ballots left to count, according to the Grant County Auditor’s Office. The ballots include an estimation of ballots coming in that were post marked Tuesday and problem ballots needing to be reviewed to determine votes.

The final ballot count for Grant County is Friday afternoon. The final ballot count for Adams County is Monday afternoon.

Grant County prosecutor: Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee and Deputy Prosecutor Albert H. Lin move on to the general election.

Lee has 5,698 votes and Lin has 3,151 votes.

With 50 votes left to count, it is not likely Attorney Robert Schiffner will proceed. He has 2,663 votes.

The winner of the general election serves one year before needing to run again. The position has a four-year term.

Moses Lake City Council: Dr. David Curnel moves on to the general election. He has 1,045 votes.

Incumbent Councilmember James H. Liebrecht and candidate Tom Hayes remain close in votes. Hayes has 656 votes and Liebrecht has 630 votes.

Othello mayor: Mayor Pro-tem Tim Wilson moves on to the general election. He has 367 votes.

With roughly 50 more votes to count, Councilmember Eleanor Brodahl and Councilmember Ken Johnson remain within a few votes of each other. Johnson has a six vote lead with 148 votes to Brodahl’s 142 votes.

Ninth Legislative District: Candidate Susan Fagan, of Pullman, leads the state representative race with 5,424 votes. The race between Pat Hailey, a Republican from Mesa, and Glen R. Stockwell, a Democrat from Ritzville, remains close. Hailey has 4,895 votes and Stockwell 4,722 votes.

Soap Lake School Board Director 2: The race for director 2 for the Soap Lake School Board remains tight between three candidates. Candidate Wanda Fencl has 225 votes while incumbent John Marthini has 223 votes. Candidate Maynard Hagen trails with 197 votes.

Coulee City mayor: Candidate Philip Isaak leads three other candidates with 74 votes. Richard Heiberg has 51 votes. Former mayor Otto Jensen has 50 votes and candidate Rosie Ristine has 34 votes.
