GOVERNMENT

| August 20, 2009 9:00 PM

When did our elected servants forget their relationship with us? When did they forget we are their boss? When did they feel they should ignore inputs from their constituents’ collective intellect or that they could make better decisions than the specialized individual or group? At what point did their path diverge from the greater good?

Its time we remind them of the road map for their representation, the constitution; and the instruction manual for its use, the bill of rights. We chose their representation based on the greater good for the majority. Its time we insisted on the benchmark for their efficiency, a budget. Let’s hold them to the same retirement and health care plans they run; social security and Medicare.

They must speak in one voice and one language. Providing interpreters/multiple languages is not a right. They represent their constituents first over all others and choose state over country based on the roots of our republic system of government. The only lowest common denominator allowed being writing of legislation. The early years of legislation in this country should be their guidance, simply written and easily explained by our forefathers to their constituents.

There is no personal belief in direct representation. You lose that freedom once elected. You vote on legislation based on your platform. You vote according to it, nothing more. You want guidance? Get feedback from your constituents in a public forum. Outside of national defense nothing else is so critical you can’t go gain the constituents input over a weekend. If pressed for a vote before said guidance, abstain. Furthermore, no more hiding behind riders and lobbying groups are not your constituents.  Your platform can be modeled after your party of choice, however, the ultimate party you gave loyalty to remains your constituents.
