Robert J. Matter passed to eternal life on Thursday, August 13, 2009, with his loving partner and best friend Gwen Diamond by his side.

Robert was born near Pittsburgh, PA on June 26, 1959, to Gottfried and Johnetta Hilmes Matter. He moved to California in 1978 where he lived for a short time, and then settled in Moses Lake, WA, where he has made his home for the past 10 years or so. In his younger years he was employed by Hilmes Construction Company of Othello, and Western Pacific Engineering of Moses Lake.

He was recently employed by Columbia Northwest Engineering of Moses Lake until his illness led to his disability.

Clover Clough is another life partner of 25 years who is now in Summerwood Alzheimer Unit. Robert took care of her until his death.

He is survived by his best friend and partner, Gwen Diamond of Moses Lake; four sisters, Donna Wildberger of Mich.; Deborah Bailey (Alex) , Patricia Matter, and Dianne Matter, all of Penna.; two brothers, Paul Matter (Martha) of Penna., and Mark Matter (Cheryl) of Alabama; and his father of Penna. He was preceded in death by his mother Johnetta, and a sister Barbara Kramer (Edward) of Mich., grandparents and three uncles. Also surviving are aunts and uncles dear to him and numerous cousins of the Columbia Basin area, and five nieces and six nephews.

Robert was a very special person to all who knew him. He will always remain in our thoughts and hearts. What an awesome Shining Star Robert truly was and is.

At Robert’s request there will be no funeral. Cremation service handled by Kayser’s Chapel and Crematory in Moses Lake. He has requested that his ashes will be dispersed in his backyard where his best friend and canine companions can visit him. May his soul be without pain and rest in peace in God’s Loving and most Holy Hands.
