Heiberg wants to help Coulee City, citizens prosper

COULEE CITY — Richard H. Heiberg is running for Coulee City mayor to use his experiences to help the citizens of Coulee City.

He has a 37 year career at Boeing and recently completed his MBA.

While at Boeing, he worked several positions including engineering, quality assurance, trained employees and spent 15 years in management.

“Over the course of time, I’ve learned a great deal about people to get things done,” Heiberg said.

He explained he’s learned how to listen to people.

In addition, he’s learned the effects globalization has locally and nationally. Heiberg said it’s important to find new ways of doing business in Coulee City to be prosperous.

He has several goals for the position.

Heiberg said it’s important for Coulee City to get involved with other small town councils to serve as a learning experience from those cities who are prosperous. He said Coulee City needs to use the Internet to do research and to get a message out to other communities to let them know about their town.

He said the city should develop more recreation opportunities and hire someone to care for it. He wants to help the city locate grant funds to repair streets and infrastructure.

Heiberg said he wants to listen to citizen concern and use their information to make the city a better place to be on a daily basis. He said he wants to be a leader in the community who will find ways to attract new businesses to the area.

He said citizens should vote for him because he has the time, experience with people and looks forward to finding solutions.

“I actually want the job and believe we have a great untapped potential,” Heiberg said. “For me, the possibilities are exciting.”

He has several priorities for the city including cleaning up the town, promoting the town, encouraging people to get involved with local government, find more activities for youth to participate, locate grant funding and to create a program to dispose of yard waste.

To improve service to the citizens, he said it’s important to talk to the city staff providing those services. He explained people performing the tasks generally see where improvements can be made.

In light of a tight city budget, Heiberg said he wants to find new ways to bring in city revenue by encouraging tourism opportunities and new businesses to come to Coulee City.

To improve communication between the city and citizens, he wants to advertise about council meetings more, encourage people to attend meetings, use word of mouth to let people know when meetings are and to invite people to attend.
