Mary Edith Voss

| August 12, 2009 9:00 PM

Edith was born to George Thomas and Laura Elizabeth Foster in Kennewick, WA.

Edith was a lifetime resident of the Columbia Basin, or “God’s Country” as she called it. She moved to Moses Lake in 1968 where she worked at several local restaurants as a cook before becoming an inventory clerk at Ross Automotive. Most people will remember her best as a cashier for Payless Drug Store on Stratford Road where she worked until 1997, but few people will know that at age 69 she became a certified dialysis technician to care for her brother until his death. Edith retired “again” and spent her remaining years doing what she truly loved, watching the Atlanta Braves and quilting. She won many awards over the years in competition including the much coveted “Best of Show” at the Grant County Fair.

Edith is survived by her eight children whom she raised as a single mother in a time where most would have given in.

Linda L. Conwell, William C. (Della) Conwell, Warren J. (Jeannie) Voss, Elizabeth E. (Rod) Steele, Kelly M. Stephens, Gaylord F. (Julie) Voss, Christopher L. (Cathy) Voss and Julia L. (Alan) Rasmussen. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, along with all of the bonus babies she took in over the years.

She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Please join us in remembering our mother, Edith, in a reflection of her life, Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. Services will be held at Benson’s Family Funeral Home, 104 W. 5th Avenue, Moses Lake, Wa.

Our mother often said:

“I am entitled to everything I can make with these two hands.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moses Lake Senior Center and the Calico Cat.
