Clarence LaVern 'Rip' Prickett

Clarence LaVern “Rip” Prickett, 85, of Taylor, Nebraska, died July 24, 2009, at the Community Memorial Healthy Center in Burwell, Nebraska.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial was in Kent Cemetery near Burwell. Rev. Fr. Tom Ryan officiated. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Taylor, Nebraska VFW.

Clarence was born December 24, 1923, in Morrill, Nebraska, to Clarence Emerson and Grace Mae (Surratt) Prickett.

Clarence was raised in Scottsbluff County. On January 13, 1943, Clarence entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 23, 1945. He returned to Scottsbluff and was a foreman at a potato cellar.

Clarence married Dorothy Markhofer in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 28, 1948. They lived in Scottsbluff, except for a year that they lived in Omaha while Rip went to Barber School. While practicing his barber skills he continued to farm and ranch and milk 100 head of dairy cows. He also worked for Midwest Farm Services. In 1974 Rip and Dorothy moved to a ranch north of Scottsbluff. Then in 1982 they moved to Rose, Nebraska, where they ran the Rose Bar and Trading Post. In 1992 they retired and moved to Taylor, Nebraska.

Clarence was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the National Rifle Association and a lifetime member of the Taylor VFW. He enjoyed horses and all livestock and playing the guitar. He enjoyed his fishing trip to Alaska. His highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife Dorothy Prickett of Taylor, Nebraska. Three sons and their wives; Rex and Barbara Prickett of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Dale and Peggy Prickett of Burwell, Nebraska, and Tim and Tanya Prickett of Moses Lake, Washington. Five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A brother Howard and his wife Jan Prickett of Lyman, Nebraska, and a sister Marguerite Taft of Delta, Colorado.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Traci Prickett, two brothers, Lloyd Prickett and Lyle Prickett and two sisters, Wilma McPherson and Etta Brown.
