Passed away on July 30, 2009 in Moses Lake, WA. He was a WWII Veteran and a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol, at the home; three daughters: Janice Williams of Spokane, WA, Lynette Schafer and Tom of Odessa, WA, and Dixie Stafford and Ray of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren: Kelly Weber and Larry, Chad Williams and Maggie, Kolby Schafer, Kim Betzer and Jared, Brandon Stafford and Amy, Zachery Schafer and Lindsey Williams; seven great grandchildren: Cade, Carsen and Camden Weber, Brayton and Adyson Schafer, and Gunner and Sam Stafford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Eric and Walter Spies, and one sister: Esther Schwartz.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa, WA with Pastor Tim Hauge officiating. Memorials may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church or to the Humane Society. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, WA is caring for the family.
