QUINCY — A structure fire damaged a home on Road U.7 Northwest, near Quincy, Saturday morning.

The fire is under investigation, Grant County Fire District 3 Chief Don Fortier said Monday.

It began on the outside of the home and does not appear suspicious.

The fire damaged an indoor racketball court and floor space in a room above a garage, he said. Firefighters from district 3, Ephrata Fire Department, Grant County Fire District 13 and Douglas County Fire District 2 were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the interior living area of the home.

Two people were home during the fire and were not injured. One of the occupants initially reported the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the home.

“We could see the smoke column when we left Quincy,” he said.

They arrived a few minutes after 8 a.m. and remained on scene until about 2 p.m.

Fortier said several different fire departments were able to respond to the fire because they were already in route to a fire training program scheduled in Quincy. As a result the fire training was canceled but will be rescheduled in the future.
