COLUMBIA BASIN — Property taxes for Grant and Adams Counties are due Thursday.

Grant County residents can either pay by mail or in person at the treasurer’s office, located on the second floor of the Grant County Courthouse.

For residents mailing their payments, Grant County Treasurer Darryl Pheasant said people should bring their payments into the post office to insure they make the deadline.

“I would not just put it into a mail box and hope,” he said. “If they’re making their payments this late then they need to take the extra steps to make sure it’s postmarked by April 30.”

People making their payments by mail need to include the coupon on the bottom left corner of their statements with their payment. For people with more than one statement, they can use a single check for the payment, according to the treasurer’s office.

In addition to its normal business hours, the office will be open from noon to 1 p.m. to accept payments.

A drop box is also set up inside of the office to accept payments.

People can make payments in Adams County at the treasurer’s office in the courthouse, located at 210 W. Broadway in Ritzville, or they can mail in the checks and money orders to the office. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Adams County Treasurer Laura Danekas also recommended people bring their payments into the post office if they’re mailing them.

“They have to get there soon enough so they can stamp the mail,” she said.

People can make credit card payments either online, at www.officialpayments.com, or by phone, by calling 800-272-9829, she said. They need to enter their parcel number during the call. If they pay by phone, they will also be asked for a jurisdiction code, which is 5647.

“There is a processing fee,” Danekas said. “The prompter will tell you what that fee is immediately. If they decide, ‘No, that’s too much money,’ they can go ahead and abort their payment.”

If people have more than one parcel, they can include all of them on one check or money order. If they’re using the phone or the Internet to pay, they will need to enter each parcel number separately.
