Charges against Adams County prosecutor dismissed

EPHRATA — The assault charge against an Adams County contract prosecutor was dismissed Wednesday.

Former Grant County Deputy Prosecutor Carolyn C. Fair, 43, Moses Lake, was charged last week with assault in the fourth degree — domestic violence.

She is a contract prosecutor for Adams County, but was placed on administrative leave. She resigned from Grant County in March.

The incident allegedly occurred during an argument with, her husband, Randy Fair about talking to a former mistress. He called police and accused her of hitting him with a baseball bat.

Randy Fair asked Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee to drop the charges, but Lee had requested assistance from the Kittitas County Prosecutor’s Office and handed them the case.

Wednesday, retired Chelan County District Court Judge Thomas Warren agreed with the defense’s request for the charge to be dismissed. He was the acting judge in the case.

Garth Dano, one of Carolyn Fair’s attorneys, said she is glad to put this behind her and move on with her life.

“I spoke with Kitittas County Deputy Prosecutor David Barrett this morning,” Dano said. “He didn’t feel there was enough evidence to proceed with this case … (Carolyn Fair) hopes this matter is behind her. She’s had a great career as a prosecutor in Grant County and intends to continue it in Adams County.”
