MOSES LAKE — The Big Bend Community College Viking Soccer Club will sponsor a benefit soccer game between the Yakima Reds and the Spokane Spiders 7 p.m. Saturday at Lions Field.

The Reds, the Spiders and the Viking Soccer Club are using the contest to help benefit the local community, said Viking Soccer Club advisor Custudio Valencia.

“We are all working together to promote this event as a cause for the community,” he said. “We are accepting donations for the Moses Lake Food Bank.”

The Yakima and Spokane organizations are members of the United Soccer League (USL). The USL is a U-23 men’s league in North America with 68 teams in the United States and Canada. Saturday’s match will be an exhibition contest.

The Yakima Reds and the Spokane Spiders were looking for a location to play an exhibition contest, Valencia said.

“They were looking for a neutral site for an exhibition game,” he said. “Lions Field presented itself for that opportunity. This is a chance for our community to watch two big league soccer teams play right here in Moses Lake.”

Admission to the event will be two cans of non-perishable food items per person and all donations will be given to the Moses Lake Food Bank, Valencia said.

“Our Viking Soccer Club is sponsoring this event and connecting it with a community service project to benefit the Moses Lake Food Bank,” Valencia said.

Cash donations for the Moses Lake Food Bank will also be accepted at the game and the Vikings Soccer Club will hold a raffle for an autographed soccer ball at halftime, Valencia said.

Gates at Lions Field will open at 6:30 p.m.
