Babe Ruth World Series planning progressing
MOSES LAKE — For the second time this month, the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force assembled at the Holiday Inn Express in Moses Lake to discuss planning for the 2009 World Series baseball tournament at Larson Playfield Aug. 15 through Aug. 22.
With the financial state of the World Series secure, the World Series Task Force can turn their attention to housing and event preparation, said Babe Ruth World Series Tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff.
“We need to start focusing in on the little things,” he said. “So far it’s been very successful.”
The Babe Ruth World Series Task Force is still looking to secure housing for tournament participants as soon as possible, said Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez. Martinez has worked to place nearly seven tournament teams and she needs homes.
“I have a team placed in Othello and 10 kids placed in Ephrata,” she said. “We are four homes shy of housing seven teams. We still need approximately 22 more homes.”
With seven of the nine tournament teams already placed, Boruff said he hopes to place as many participants as soon as possible.
“I would hate to see us have seven teams placed in May and not get the job done,” he said.
While participant housing is progressing, Boruff said the tournament’s opening ceremonies is a priority for the Babe Ruth Task Force.
“We are required to have an opening ceremonies and we want to set the tone for the whole tournament,” he said. “We want to make that first day special.”
With the opening ceremonies planning underway, Boruff said he still needs people to sing the national anthem at the tournament games.
The Babe Ruth World Series Task Force will meet again May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on East Kittelson in Moses Lake.
