Merle L. Fowles

Merle L. Fowles, 74, passed away on April 17, 2009, in Washington, Utah, due to health problems.

She was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Murray, Utah, to George W. and Elda N. Langford. She married LaVelle Dee Fowles on June 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple.

She moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, when she was 7 years old, where she attended schools in the area and graduated from Sandpoint High School. She later married her high school sweetheart and began raising her family. She also spent part of her life in Washington state and Utah. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held many different church callings including Relief Society President and Primary President. She also served a temple mission in the St. George Utah Temple with her spouse. She enjoyed her gardens, working with wood, the outdoors and loved spending time with her family. She spent several years team driving a semi-truck with her husband and traveled all over the United States.

She is survived by her husband, four children: Ron (Reva), Denise (Brent) Simpson, Brian (ClareAnn) and Celeste (Scott) Sorensen, 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren with two expected this year.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Washington LDS 6th Branch Chapel, 700 E. Telegraph Rd., Washington, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Pine View Mortuary, 566 N. Mall Dr., and Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the Hooper City Cemetery, Hooper, Utah.
