Harold A. Sartin, 91, Warden resident, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, in Moses Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nelson Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from noon until 12:45 p.m.

Harold was born May 16, 1917, in Fayetteville, Ark., son of the late Robert Lafe and Myrtle (Winkle) Sartin. While growing up in Fayetteville, he had to assume the role of head of the household at the age of 9. He helped raise his younger brother and sister and worked to pay the bills. At age 18 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps working at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas for the next two years. A rock dam and rock cabins he helped construct still stand and are in continuous use. In 1937, the family swapped for an old car and although no one in the family drove, headed west for Seattle. He worked in the Seattle shipyards for several years. In 1945, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1946. He returned to Seattle, working in the shipyards and later a plywood mill. In the mid 1960s, he moved to North Bend and began working for the City of Seattle Water Shed. He had been coming to Grant County for years enjoying the hunting and fishing of the area and in 1979 moved to Warden. At the Warden Senior Center he met Dona Morrison and they were married on May 9, 1981, in Auburn, Wash. They lived in Moses Lake for 10 years and then moved to Warden again, where they have lived since. In addition to hunting and fishing, Harold also loved his horses. He was a member of the Grant County Mounted Posse for years, participated in trail rides with other groups and trained BLM horses.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dona at the family home; children and spouses, Ann and Merwin Hoxsey, San Diego, Calif., Kay Jamison, Spokane, Steven and Lynette Morrison, Liberty Lake, Wash., Denise Jones, Hayden Lake, Idaho, Lark and Ray Linehan, Moses Lake; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and three nephews that he was especially close to.

Harold’s brother and sister preceded him in death.
