MOSES LAKE — After waiting six years for the business to be up for sale, Johnny Crain and his father Larry Crain recently bought Moses Lake Transmission & Muffler from Farrel Huntsman.

The Crains previously operated a transmission business in Wenatchee, but wanted to quit the nearly 70-mile commute to work from Moses Lake.

“It’s a blessing, it really is,” he noted. “I only live five miles from work now, instead of an hour and a half.”

They also found Moses Lake needs a good transmission shop that works on all vehicles.

For the past 10 years, cars and bikes were sold from the business.

“Our goal is just to be very honest and earn the community’s trust,” Johnny said. “We had a really good business in Wenatchee. There was nothing wrong with the business. We just didn’t want to drive back and forth.”

The business works on all transmissions, automatic and standard, as well as domestics, imports, clutches, axles, differentials, transfer cases, four-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and complete exhaust systems, performance and standard.

The Crains are working to turn the place back into a transmission shop, “like it’s supposed to be,” Johnny noted.

They’re currently repainting the business’s new sign and plan to repaint the inside of the building.

The shop is offering a free transmission check and scan as an opening special, which typically costs about $85.

The offer will be honored from April through June.

Transmission rebuilds come with a 12 month, 12,000 mile nationwide warranty through the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association.

The business is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is located at 955 W. Third Ave.
