Columbia Basin looks for season's first win
MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin Riverhawks look to put one in the win column for the first time this season when they host the winless North Sound Sting Saturday night at Lions Field
The Riverhawks and the sting compete in the Washington Football League.
The Riverhawks enter Saturday’s contest with the Sting with an 0-2 record after dropping their opener 6-3 and falling last week on the road 42-17.
Columbia Basin took a 17-14 lead into halftime of last week’s contest before Wenatchee rallied for a 42-17 victory.
Riverhawks Vice President and player Shane Starnes said his team has improved since last week’s loss.
“We made some critical mistakes in the second half (against Wenatchee),” he said. “Hopefully we can have a better result this week.”
The Sting and Riverhawks will enter Saturday night’s contest with identical 0-2 records, Starnes said.
“We are about even in points-for and points-against,” Starnes said of his Riverhawks and the Sting. “Hopefully we can get a win (at home).”
While the Riverhawks have started the season 0-2, Starnes said the Riverhawks are close to getting their first win of the season.
“We are making a turnaround from years past,” he said. “We would like to get a win heading into the bye (week) so we can make a run downhill toward the playoffs.”
Although the Riverhawks are still looking for their first win this season, Starnes said the Riverhawks are a talented football team.
“We are getting ready to break out on offense,” he said. “We have a lot of talented players. The guys are hungry and we are on the cusp of great things.”
The Riverhawks and the Sting will kick off Saturday night’s contest at 7 p.m. at Lions Field in Moses Lake.
