Local youth compete in meet

MOSES LAKE — Despite chilly temperatures and wind gusts, 81 participants headed to Moses Lake High School Tuesday afternoon to compete in the annual Hershey Track Meet.

Participants competed in a variety of events and the top three in each event qualified for the district track meet to be held June 20 in Wenatchee, said recreation supervisor Lori Moholt-Phillips.

After the afternoon competition, Moholt-Phillips said the event was a success.

“Everything went well,” she said. “It’s always cool to see the kids participating and doing well. If they don’t (do well) it’s nice to see them out there competing and trying.”

Moholt-Phillips said 94 participants officially registered for the competition and 81 participated.

With 81 participants competing in the Hershey Track Meet, Moholt-Phillips said the Moses Lake High School track team helped make Tuesday’s event a success.

“The (Moses Lake) High School track team volunteered and they did a great job,” she said. “Without (their help) we don’t have a track meet. It’s hard to find that many knowledgeable volunteers.”

While the participants and the volunteers helped make the track meet a success, Moholt-Phillips said she would have changed the weather if she was able.

“I would have like to have seen better weather, there were a lot of chattering teeth,” she said.
