NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. — The Warden boys soccer team battled Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Monday afternoon, but the Cougars fell 3-0 in non-conference competition.

Warden stood strong against Lakeside, but despite a solid effort from the Cougars, the Eagles escaped with a 3-0 home victory, said Warden head coach Ed Aguilar.

“I think we did good,” he said. “It was a close game and we have a very good team.”

The Cougars were coming off of a shootout loss to South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) rival Royal in Saturday’s SCAC conference opener and Aguilar said he moved his starters around Monday to get ready for Thursday’s SCAC match with Connell.

“I changed some people around because we are going to have a tough game Thursday against Connell,” he said. “I am not saying we will beat them or that they will beat us, but it will be a close game.”

Lakeside managed to beat Warden to the ball in the second half to turn a 1-0 halftime lead into a 3-0 victory.

“They beat us to the ball in the air,” he said. “Their second goal came on a header from a corner kick.”

While the Eagles earned a 3-0 shut-out victory, Aguilar said his team played better than the score indicated.

“It was 3-0, but it was closer than the score says,” Aguilar said. “I am happy with how we played. We played hard. I was happy, not with the results, but with how the kids played.”

Aguilar is in his first year as the Warden head soccer coach and he said his team will continue to improve throughout the remainder of the season.

“The kids are really skillful, really skillful,” he said. “They know how to play the game, they just need some playing time together to get to know each other.”
