Schoesler's bill goes to governor

OLYMPIA — A legislative bill, allowing more engineering courses at Eastern Washington University, was introduced by Sen. Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, and passed the House of Representatives.

“This is good news for students, especially those now in high school who want to pursue engineering studies closer to their homes,” he stated. “It should also send a positive signal to Boeing and other employers who rely on having ready access to engineering talent.”

Substitute Senate Bill 5276 allows the school to offer engineering degrees in civil, mechanical, chemical and aeronautical studies.

“Eastern, at least, can make this change with the funding and facility it already has,” Schoesler stated. “That may explain why this bill sailed through the Legislature unanimously.”

The bill is on the way to Gov. Chris Gregoire for her signature.
