QUINCY — After holding second-place Prosser to one goal for most of Saturday’s game, the Quincy Jackrabbits fell to the Mustangs 3-2 following a 4-3 victory in a shootout.

The Mustangs got on the board in the game’s 20th minute when Maynor Maza beat Quincy goalie Cody Beaumont to give Prosser a 1-0 lead.

The Jacks, the 2008 Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) soccer champions, tied the game 11 minutes later when Efrain Alvarado put the ball past Prosser goalie Brian Molina.

Quincy and Prosser took a 1-1 tie into the half.

The Jacks jumped on the Mustangs in the second half, taking a 2-1 lead when Raul Serrano scored in the game’s 57th minute to give the defending conference champions their first lead of the contest.

Quincy controlled the scoreboard for much of the second half before Memo Carralla scored the equalizer with five minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game 2-2 and send the contest into sudden-death overtime.

Neither the Jacks nor the Mustangs could end the contest in overtime and the CWAC rivals went to a shootout.

Prosser was able to put four balls into the back of the net during the shootout while Quincy managed three and the Mustangs escaped Quincy with a 3-2 shootout victory.

Ephrata 2, Grandview 1

EPHRATA — The Ephrata Tigers recovered from a heart-breaking 3-2 loss Thursday night to knock off Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) foe Grandview 2-1 Saturday.

After playing through a scoreless first half, Grandview got on the scoreboard first when Sami Villa scored two minutes into the second half to take a 1-0 lead.

Ephrata responded 16 minutes later when senior forward Eric Hensley beat Telco Perez in the 58th minute to tie the game for the Tigers.

Following a defensive struggle between the CWAC rivals for the majority of Saturday’s contest, Ephrata’s A.J. Stortz fielded a pass from Ramon Sanchez in the 74th minute to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead at home.

Ephrata junior goalie and captain Jordan Hurst kept the Greyhounds off of the scoreboard for the remainder of regulation and Ephrata held on for the victory. Hurst made nine saves in the win.
