Moses Lake splits with Davis

MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Columbia Basin Big Nine rival Davis, but the Pirates rallied  for six runs in the fourth to capture game one of Friday’s doubleheader 6-3.

Moses Lake starting pitcher Brock Lybbert kept Davis off balance throughout game one, striking out six Pirates in the process.

The Chiefs kept the Pirates off of the scoreboard until the fourth inning when a pair of Moses Lake errors prolonged the inning and Davis scored six runs to take the lead.

Moses Lake would rally in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-3.

The Chiefs started to rally in the bottom of the seventh when Moses Lake had runners on first and second with one out for Lybbert.

Lybbert grounded back to the pitcher, moving the Moses Lake base runners to second and third in the process for senior second baseman Blaine Myers.

Myers grounded out to the shortstop to end the game and Davis held on for the 6-3 victory in game one.

Although Moses Lake fell in the opening game of the doubleheader, the Chiefs rallied in the second.

Davis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Chiefs tied the game in the bottom of the first. Moses Lake kept Davis off of the scoreboard in the second inning, but the Pirates took advantage of another big inning in the third to take a 6-1 advantage.

With Moses Lake trailing in the third, Myers and the Chiefs fought their way back. Moses Lake scored three runs in the third inning to pull within two runs of Davis at 6-4.

Moses Lake pitcher Kody Samuels held the Pirates to a single run in the fourth and the Chiefs took their first lead in game two with a four-run fourth inning to taking an 8-7 advantage.

The Chiefs scored four more in the fifth and added three in the sixth to take game two of the series 15-7 to split Friday’s doubleheader with the Pirates.

Myers led the Chiefs during the doubleheader with Davis going 4-for-7 at the plate with five RBIs, including a perfect 3-for-3 in game two. Cameron Alvarado went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Josh Martinez went 3-for-7 while knocking in a run of his own.

Ephrata 6-6, Prosser 2-1

PROSSER, Wash. — The Ephrata Tigers baseball team got back on track Saturday with a two-game doubleheader sweep over the Prosser Mustangs in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) competition.

Ephrata ran out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning, and senior starting pitcher Brett Robinson earned the complete-game 6-2 victory.

The Tigers added to their 5-2 advantage in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead and Robinson and the Tigers held on for the CWAC victory.

Mason Lotz helped lead the Tigers to the victory in game one with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Ephrata got off to another hot start in game two of the doubleheader with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Starting pitcher Lotz  earned the victory and relief pitcher Bryce Todd came in during the fifth to close out the victory for the Tigers.

Quincy 12-18, Grandview 6-3

GRANDVIEW, Wash. — The Quincy Jackrabbits fell behind 3-0 after one inning in game one of their Central Washington Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader before rallying to sweep the Grandview Greyhounds.

Quincy scored four runs in the top of the second and added two more in the third to take a 6-3 lead over Grandview. The Jackrabbits added another in the top of the fourth before Grandview scored two in the bottom of the inning to pull within 7-5.

The Jacks added another in top of the fifth and four in the seventh to take game one 12-6. Ross Masey led the Quincy attack in game one with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate with a double and five RBIs.

Quincy continued to roll in game two, jumping on the Greyhounds in the top of the first inning and never letting up. The Jacks scored in every inning of the six inning mercy-rule shortened contest.

The Jacks jumped on the Greyhounds with three runs in the first and three in the second to take an early 6-0 lead over their conference foe. Grandview scored one in the bottom of the second before Quincy added a pair in the third for an 8-1 lead.

Masey continued his hot-hitting in game two, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a home run while knocking in four RBIs.

Othello 5-15, Wapato 4-2

OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies jumped on the Wapato Wolves early and hung on late to take game one of their Central Washington Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday in Othello.

The Huskies scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead before the Wolves fought their way back with a pair of runs in the second and a pair in the fifth to claim a 4-3 advantage.

Othello scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game and the Huskies added one in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead late in the contest. Wapato couldn’t respond in the top of the seventh and Othello held on for the conference victory.

Othello senior Marc Garza helped power the Huskies in game one with a home run.

In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Huskies fell behind 2-1 after an inning and a half before Othello exploded onto the scoreboard with an eight-run second inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

Othello, led by Lee Gomez’s three RBIs, added four runs in the third and another two in the fourth to cruise to the 15-2 victory.
