Moses Lake egg hunt attracts 2,000 plus
MOSES LAKE — More than 2,000 kids and their parents waited Saturday with bated breath for the start of the Moses Lake Lions Club Easter egg hunt.
About 600 dozen brightly colored eggs dotted grassy sections of McCosh Park.
Before the hunt, older kids leaned forward on one leg, like they were preparing to run a race.
Some little ones were there for the first time, like Emelia Mears, who will turn 2 in June and just learned to walk.
Her mom, Dawn Mears, said she brought her daughter along just so she could take part in an Easter egg hunt for the first time.
“Last week, she wasn’t walking,” Dawn said. “She’s been excited about it all morning, even though she doesn’t know what’s going on.
Jamie Valenzuela’s daughter Ashlynn, 18 months, was another first timer at the event.
Jamie also brought along her older children, Anthoney, 10, Teisha, 9, and Mariah, 7.
The hunt lasted all of about two minutes, with kids racing for the coveted eggs and some parents helping the younger children.
Photos with the Easter bunny were also available, as well as rub on tattoos for kids.
Prizes of Easter baskets and larger candies were given to kids who found eggs containing prize tickets.
Afterwards, Lions event chairperson Rebekah Littlefield said it seems like the event gets bigger every year.
She thanked Willamette Egg Farms, the Columbia Basin Herald, Boy Scout Troop 67, Cub Scout Pack 67, Ram’s Ripple and Lions Club volunteers and friends for helping with the event.
