Cougars knock off Coyotes
WARDEN — The Lady Cougars of Warden took on the Columbia-Burbank Coyotes in a South Central Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday and swept both games behind the pitching of junior Randi Wright.
Warden won game one 8-0 and Wright had 12 strike outs in the win. Wright earned another shutout in a 4-0 win in game two.
Warden head coach Wes Richins said he was concerned with how well his team would play after a long layoff.
“We haven’t played for a while,” he said. “The girls could have been a little rusty.”
Game one got off to a quick start for the Lady Cougars who jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning and Wright dominated the Coyotes on the way to the victory.
The second game was much the same for Warden. The Lady Cougars outscored Columbia-Burbank 4-0 in Wright’s second shutout of the afternoon.
Richins had nothing but praise for his student-athlete.
“She had a total of 18 strike outs, 12 in the first and six in the second,” Richins said. “It’s her third shutout of the year.”
