Quincy boy hurt in shooting

QUINCY — A 14-year-old Quincy boy was shot, in what is believed to be a gang-related, shooting Wednesday.

The boy was shot once in the leg and treated at Quincy Valley Hospital.

A shooting suspect is being sought by Quincy police but the department did not release any details about the shooter. An arrest was not made as of Thursday.

At about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Quincy police responded to E Street Northeast due to a complaint about gunshots being fired in the area.

“Upon police arrival, the suspect had fled, but witnesses nearby gave a description of the suspect as well as information on what had happened,” Quincy Police Chief Bill Gonzales stated. “Initially, there was no indication that anyone had been hurt by the gunfire.”

Shortly after the report of gunfire, police were dispatched to the hospital due to a gunshot victim being in their care.

The boy was on the street where the gunshots were reported and was apparently the target of the shooter, Gonzales stated.

“Several witnesses were interviewed at the scene and numerous items of evidence were recovered,” he stated. “By statements from witnesses, the shooting appears to be gang-related in nature.”
