MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs girls tennis team hosted Davis Thursday afternoon in Columbia Basin Big Nine competition, but the Chiefs couldn’t sink the Pirates to earn their first win of the season.

Davis was able to sweep all four singles matches and all three doubles matches to earn the 7-0 victory.

Although Moses Lake fell at home, head coach Jon Wrigley said his team is improving.

“We are working hard,” he said. “We lost a lot of girls from last year.”

Moses Lake lost in straight sets in all but one match Thursday afternoon when Audrey Ramsden lost to Brooke Lybeck in three sets. Ramsden won the first set 6-3 before falling in the next two.

Wrigley said inexperience has hindered his team this season.

“Our girls haven’t hit as many balls as the girls on the other side of the net,” he said.

While Moses Lake is inexperienced, Wrigley is impressed with how well his girls take to his coaching.

“They are doing what I say,” he said. “I can’t ask for more.”

The Moses Lake Chiefs return to the court Saturday morning when they travel to Yakima to take on the Rams of West Valley. Saturday’s match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
