Wanda May Thornton Jackson

Wanda May Thornton Jackson, 67, a resident of Wenatchee since 1985, died Friday, April 3, at Central Washington Hospital after fighting a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Wanda was born in Enumclaw, Wash., then lived in Bridgeport, Wash., until her early teens. Her parents then moved their family to Moses Lake, where they purchased farmland on O’Sullivan Dam Road and settled in to raise their daughters. Wanda’s father farmed his land into his 80s. Wanda was the owner of Shaffer Insurance in Moses Lake until she retired. She then moved to Wenatchee to live in the home that her grandparents had built in the 1940s. Wanda’s greatest joy was being with her grandchildren. Wanda had a great talent for drawing, which she passed to her grandson Cameron. She also loved music and to sing and dance, which she passed to her granddaughter Tiffany.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Elmer Bud Jackson, of Wenatchee; sister, Beverly Finney, and her husband, Larry Finney, of Pasco, Wash.; daughter, Kim Marchmonte, and her partner, Mitch Barnes, of Wenatchee; her two grandchildren, Cameron and Tiffany Marchmonte, both of Wenatchee; and numerous nieces and nephews of the Tri-Cities and Spokane areas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna May, her parents, Newt and Pearl Thornton, and her son, DuWayne Shaffer.

Service to be held at Telfords Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee on Saturday at 1 p.m., Pastor Mark Witas will preside. Visitation to be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in East Wenatchee.
