Grand opening Oct. 31

QUINCY - Quincy's new Ace store has employees at the older Ace in town clamoring to work at the new location, which boasts double the inventory. Store Manager Rick Bretches is rotating his roughly 19 employees between both stores, he said. The store is currently open for business and is an expansion of the old store's current departments.

"It's a brand-new store, everyone wants to work at the new store," said Bretches. "It's been great., Everybody's just really excited something new came to Quincy."

Customers are also happy they don't have to leave town to shop, he added. And he's happy to have the new building to better serve Quincy, he said.

The old store is located on Columbia Way and is 600 square feet. It will stay open, he said.

The new store was built because the other location was "busting at the seams" and it wasn't possible to serve the customers like store officials wanted to, he said.

The opportunity for the store presented itself because a landowner was willing to build the new store, he said.

The new facility is geared toward the homeowner and carries items such as Plexiglas, while the old store is tailored to farmers' needs, he said.

Other items at the new store include thousands of gallons of paint with a color matching system, faucets, interior and exterior lighting, low-voltage lighting and welding supplies.

The store also has the "largest nut and bolt section in Quincy," he claimed. More nuts and bolts are a need because Quincy is a farming community, he added.

The new store has two employees who are also licensed master gardeners.

He hires employees with knowledge in certain areas, with one employee owning a farm and another employee training dancing horses, he said.

Bretches said he is currently looking for two more full-time employees to work in a cashier and a sales clerk position, he said.

About 12 more employees were hired with the building of the new 15,000-square-foot store on 13th Avenue in Quincy.

Both Quincy Aces are owned by Ag Supply Ace Hardware, which also has Ace stores in East Wenatchee, Ephrata and Brewster, he said.

The new Quincy store's three-day grand opening is from Oct.. 31 to Nov. 2. Specials, giveaways and fun activities are planned, he said.

Specials were still being developed this week and weren't available to include in this article.

The new store's hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.
