MOSES LAKE - It's time to find the perfect pumpkin and give it personality.

Moses Lake Museum & Art Center is offering a pumpkin decorating contest to Columbia Basin residents.

"Scary, funny, artsy or cute, enter your pumpkin - win some loot," said Technician Ann Golden, reciting the contest's tag phrase.

Golden said this is the first year of the contest. Pumpkins can be painted or carved.

Entries are accepted in four categories: Ages 8 and younger, 9 through 12, 13 through 17, and 18 or older. The pumpkins must be dropped off Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 228 W. Third Ave., in Moses Lake.

Golden said prizes are going to be awarded for winning entries. Pumpkins will be displayed on Halloween.

The museum is still accepting prize donations from businesses, Golden said.

In addition to offering a pumpkin-carving contest, the center is collecting candy for the annual Moses Lake Business Association's downtown trick-or-treating event.

Golden estimated 500 to 800 people visit the museum during the event.

"We had 700 (visitors) last year," she said.

Candy is collected through Halloween.
