MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Chiefs swim and dive team remained perfect this season following duel meet wins against the Southridge Suns and Kennewick Lions Tuesday afternoon at Moses Lake High School.

Moses Lake topped the Suns 108-78 and defeated the Lions 145-27. The Chiefs hosted both schools in a double-duel meet format.

The victories improved the Chiefs to 4-0 this season as Moses Lake remained in a first place tie in the Columbia Basin League with Hanford and Eastmont. All three schools are undefeated at this point in the season.

Prior to Tuesday's meet, Southridge and Moses Lake were two of the league's four teams tied for first place.

The Chiefs responded to the challenge and knocked off the Suns, Moses Lake head coach Anthony St. Onge said.

"This was a battle of two of the undefeated teams in the league," he said. "We came out fired up in our home pool and swam to season-best performances in almost every race. This effort is what coaches and teams like to see in the face of close competition."

The Chiefs are one of the Columbia Basin League's top teams and St. Onge said the key to his team's victories were their determination.

"The key to the meet was that the Chiefs won every close race," he said.

Othello's Natalie Ruiz swam two additional state qualifying events at the duel meet. She swam qualifying times in the 200-yard freestyle event and the 100-yard butterfly event.

Ruiz cooperatively competes with the Moses Lake Chiefs because Othello High School does not having a swimming program.
