Lions 6, Knights 1

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Christian Academy's boys soccer team rolled past the visiting Sunnyside Christian Knights Tuesday at the Kvamme Soccer Complex in Moses Lake's Cascade Park.

The MLCA Lions scored their first goal in the game's 12th minute when sophomore Isaac Murrell found the back of the net to put the pressure on Sunnyside Christian.

With a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, freshman Nik Hocking put the Lions on top 2-0. Hocking fielded a pass from Pierson Fode and put the ball in the back of the net in the game's 27th minute.

Just two minutes later freshman Joe Timofeyev scored the first of his two goals to put Moses Lake Christian on top 3-0.

The Lions increased their lead to 4-0 following Lowell Kirkwood's goal in the 31st minute.

Moses Lake Christian Academy head coach Scott McCornack said his team is playing well.

"We have continued to improve," he said. "We are getting players back from being ineligible. We are getting players back from being sick. We are getting players back from being injured. I would say our chemistry is beginning to click."

In the game's 41st minute Timofeyev broke away from the Knights defenders at midfield, dribbled his way towards the Knights goalie and scored his second goal of the match to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.

Sunnyside Christian got on the board in the 58th minute with an unassisted goal from Steven Bosma. The score gave the Lions a 5-1 lead.

Moses Lake Christian scored the game's final goal in the 71st minute when senior Abe Hudsell scored on a penalty kick to give the Lions a 6-1 victory.

Hudsell was given the penalty kick opportunity following a Sunnyside Christian handball in the penalty box.

While his team came away with the victory, McCornack hoped the game would be more competitive.

"(The team's chemistry) doesn't stay long in a match like this," he said. "We don't want to blow them out. It doesn't do them any good."
