Crafts, auction and speakers offered

MOSES LAKE - Tickets are on sale for the Fifth Annual Stamp Out Breast Cancer Fund-raiser, which features activities, speakers and a silent auction.

The event, to benefit Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, is Sept. 27, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is at Fatima Center at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 200 N. Dale Road in Moses Lake.

"Our goal this year is (to raise) $10,000, and that's actually $3,000 more than last year," said event co-founder Jan Przybylski. "I have no doubt that we're going to make it."

Przybylski said organizers introduced corporate sponsorship this year. As a result, $3,000 is already raised.

Event M.C. is Warden Mayor Roldan Capetillo, according to co-founder Belinda Alaniz.

The event includes 15 tables with activities such as cookie decorating, bead bracelet making, card making and paper crafts.

Door prizes, a silent auction, a quilt raffle and Bunco tournament are also offered. Featured speakers include chiropractor Saul Ribelia and two breast cancer patients.

Guests can purchase pink hair extensions for $10, provided by Eden Salon co-owner Cindy Hayes.

The event can be tiring for cancer patients, which influenced a decision to hold the event earlier in the day, Alaniz said.

"We thought if we do it early, then maybe they will be able to enjoy the event," Alaniz said.

Przybylski said holding the event earlier in the day will also give people time to relax at home after working all week.

The idea for Stamp Out Breast Cancer was prompted by the death of Alaniz's friend Connie Oliver. Oliver introduced Alaniz to the craft of stamping, and the two started a business together.

Alaniz said the event is a major fund-raiser for Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. The organization provides cancer patients vouchers for any of their needs, she said.

"(Patients) should be able to go and get their help without having to think of those little things," she said.

Tickets are on sale for $20 before the event, or $25 at the door.
