Robert Stanley Walthers

Robert Stanley Walthers (Oyster Bob), 73, of Kennewick, died Aug. 19, 2008, at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. Bob was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Independence, Ore., to Francis and Lillian Walthers. He graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Wash., in 1952. Bob was in the United States Navy and served on the USS Edmonds No. 406. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking and was a member of the Elks lodge. Bob is known in the Tri-Cities and parts of Seattle as “Oyster Bob.” It started in 1984 and for many years later, Bob made oyster stew for the crews during the boat races.

Bob is survived by his three sons; Kevin (Robin) Walthers of Richland, Wash., Terry of Lafayette, Ore., Andy (RaeAnn) of Shoreline, Wash., his sister; Dianna (David) Rowling of Newberg, Ore., his aunt, Elsie Robinette of Eugene, Ore., grandchildren Benjamin, Gage, Bailey, Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gordon Walthers. A celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick, Wash. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
