Gatherings to include weddings, parties, luncheons

MOSES LAKE - September is often considered the lull after the storm of June weddings.

But Teresa Tyler learned the fall season doesn't mean future brides and grooms aren't scoping out places for their weddings, she said.

Teresa is an owner of a new event center in Moses Lake called Jamison's, which is also her son Miles' middle name. Teresa and her husband Carlos named the business.

The facility is located at 605 E. Nelson Rd. in Moses Lake.

The center recently opened and already has a wedding, a Christmas party and a business meeting scheduled for next year, she said. Other events are penciled in too, Teresa added.

"We've had a lot of interest for next year already," Teresa said.

Teresa operates Jamison's out of a large 1904-era white home with her husband Carlos Tyler, their son Miles Tyler and sister-in-law Shirley Brice.

Shirley said the idea for the business came about from the family's gatherings, with about 30 relatives arriving at Teresa's home for fun and food.

Each of the family members bring their own strengths to the business. Shirley always decorated for the family's gatherings and designs and sells her own earrings at Jamison's.

Teresa has a background in graphic design, Carlos in property management and Miles is attending Big Bend Community College to earn a degree in office information technology.

Jamison's joins just a handful of event facilities in Moses Lake.

"I believe the community needed another place," said Shirley. She added Jamison's offers an intimate setting and extra space some hotels aren't large enough to provide.

"We just loved the feel of it," Teresa said. "It's elegant … a nice atmosphere for events." There's seating inside for 125 people and Teresa said they hope to add more tables and chairs next year.

The facility is located on East Nelson Road and includes a small waterfall, outdoor grounds and an arbor.

The home's inside boasts hardwood floors, a sound system, a kitchen and a long winding staircase perfect for a bride to walk down or toss her bouquet to wedding guests.

An outdoor pond is home to Koi fish and with surrounding trees, is the location of a photo shoot this weekend, Teresa said.

Teresa said Jamison's is for all occasions, including receptions, business meetings and luncheons.

One woman recently told Teresa she liked how the facility was cleaned up and ready for an event, and how convenient it was to walk away without cleaning up, Teresa said.

A small dance or a Super Bowl party can also be held there, as the center has a large screen TV available, Shirley said. People just need to bring their own music to use the center's sound system.

The business also offers a full line of invitations, announcements and stationary for sale.

Tablecloths, napkins, china, silver and glassware can be rented for events, or people are welcome to bring in their own items. Decorations are also available for use.
