Moses Lake victim remains in hospital

MOSES LAKE - A donation account for a 6-year-old Alex Medina, the Moses Lake boy mauled by a pit bull, was created at Bank of America.

The account name is under Jackie Crow and the deposit-only account number is 37644374.

Bank of America is located at 103 E. Third Ave. in Moses Lake.

Medina sustained severe head and face trauma Friday night when a pit bull entered the yard where he was playing and reportedly attacked him unprovoked.

The boy was transported to Samaritan Healthcare where he was stabilized and later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

He is expected to stay at the hospital for at least one month, Medina's aunt Alissa Gonzales said.

Medina was moved from the Intensive Care Unit, she said. He doesn't want to eat much but he is awake more often.

Surgery dates are not yet scheduled, but he is scheduled to receive several re-constructive surgeries, Gonzales said. The medical staff must wait for the injury to his scalp to heal over the exposed skull.

"Donations and prayers are appreciated," she said.

The dog was impounded to Grant County Animal Outreach for quarantine. The dog is kept at the facility during the investigation and to determine if it has any diseases. The dog owner did not have paperwork indicating it was vaccinated and it was not licensed with the city.

Capt. Dave Ruffin said the incident remains under investigation and possible charges against the dog owner are not yet determined.
