EPHRATA — A former Ephrata City Council member faces charges for child rape and child molestation.

Jack Glyn Jones, 62, pleaded not guilty to two charges of child rape in the first degree and two charges of child molestation in the first degree.

Jones allegedly molested two of his granddaughters between 1995 and 2004, according to Grant County Superior Court documents. The girls were under 12 years old at the time of the abuse.

He allegedly did not threaten the girls, but would buy them gifts, such as bicycles or horses, and told them not to tell anyone about the incident, according to court records.

When the Ephrata Police Department asked Jones about accusations of abuse, he stated one of the girls’ mother was behind the claims because of a property matter, according to court records. Jones’ wife stated the girls were with her the entire time.

“I’m a grandfather,” he reportedly stated. “I wouldn’t do something like that.”

Jones served on the Ephrata City Council in 2004. He left for health reasons. Before he retired, he worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Snohomish County and a state electrical inspector.

If convicted, Jones could be sentenced up to life, and be fined up to $50,000 per charge.
