WALLA WALLA - The Moses Lake High School girls soccer team capitalized on the momentum from two overtime victories last weekend to knock off rival Walla Walla Tuesday afternoon.

The Chiefs has never beaten Walla Walla in head coach Ric Char's 7 years at Moses Lake before Tuesday's 2-0 victory.

Moses Lake held a 1-0 halftime lead over the Blue Devils when Colby Happer scored in the 39th minute off of a deflected shot from Magie Munoz.

The Chiefs went up 2-0 in the 65th minute when Munoz scored her third goal of the season for Moses Lake.

Moses Lake goalie Bailey Ritchie had eight saves for the Chiefs.

After the victory Char was proud of his team's performance.

"They came together today," he said. "That was one of the goals of the season. To beat Walla Walla."

Moses Lake enters Thursday night's contest with Ephrata 3-0. Char told his team to focus on their next game.

"I told them to stay humble," he said. "At 3-0 it is easy to lose focus."

The Chiefs won their first game of the season Friday night at Lions Field 4-2 in a shootout against the visiting Othello Huskies. At the end of regulation the game was tied 1-1 following goals by Moses Lake's Munoz and Othello's Lindsay Garza.

After the overtime periods ended, the game remained tied and the teams went to a shootout. Munoz added another score for the Chiefs in the shootout. Moses Lake's Sydney Kimbro, Ashley Donaldson and Kelsie Grant also scored in the shootout, with Grant scoring the game winning penalty shot.

Moses Lake's Ritchie had eight saves for the Chiefs and Othello goalie Jenny Silva had three saves for the Huskies.

The Trojans made second-half adjustments and cut the Moses Lake lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute.
