Born May 3, 1920, in Belgrade, Mont., to GC Hopkins and Maude Hopkins, residents of Moses Lake in the 1950s/60s. Jack grew up during the hard times of the Depression. He worked as an all purpose ranch hand trough the 1930s including a Hitch in the CCC’s in Montana, grooming him to become the classic “Jack-of-All-Trades” which prepared him well for his career as a carpenter, roofer, concrete mason, plumber and you name it through the 50s, 60s and 70s.
John “Jack” served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a munitions specialist; he liked to think of himself as a “pilot” … first we pile it here, than we pile it over there! He was injured while loading 2,000 pound bombs into one the “Hells Angels” B-17 bombers, which led to his meeting of his loving wife, Lucy Tindal Gettins, a British Tech. Sergeant in the Ambulance Corps. John and Lucy married on Feb. 15, 1947.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucy T. Hopkins, four loving sons, John Hopkins (Nancy), Bill Hopkins, Philip Hopkins (Barbara), David Hopkins and sisters Zada Rolen, Etta Rolen. Many nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces. Five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. He is preceded by his son Gerald Hopkins in 2001.
